Spring (or Gwanwyn in Welsh) is a season of new beginnings and vivid colours. Fresh buds bloom, animals awaken and the earth bursts with life again. This May marks the 10th anniversary of the Wales Coast Path. Chepstow is the official start (or finish) of the Path and the route then follows the coast along the Gwent Levels and the Severn Estuary. With one of the highest tidal ranges in the world, up to 90,000 wading birds and wildfowl visit the estuary every year because of its ideal over-wintering conditions.
The end of April / beginning of May is also officially blubell season in Monmouthshire so see our bluebell feature to find out where to see the most breathtakingly beautiful bluebells. Spring is also the best time for foraging wild edibles, to get closer to nature and to learn how to open and wild water swim safely.
On the border with England, and at the crossroads between the Wye Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the Brecon Beacons National Park and the low-lying cultural landscape of the Gwent Levels, welcome to Wales' food capital!
