You are here: Things to do > Activities
Ideally placed between the Brecon Beacons and the Wye Valley, Monmouthshire offers a wealth of activities with spectacular landscape as a backdrop. Whether it's canoeing down the River Wye, taking a tandem paragliding or hot air balloon flight, horse-riding on dedicated trails or simply grabbing a round of golf, Monmouthshire has plenty to offer.
Prefer to keep your feet on terra firma? There’s plenty of ground to cover on the 177-mile Offa’s Dyke National Trail or the 870-mile Wales Coast Path. (If you walk one after the other you will walk your way around the whole of Wales).
Slightly more manageable by degrees are the Wye Valley Walk (136 miles), the Usk Valley Walk (48 miles) and the Three Castles Walk (19 miles). In March the South Wales Three Peaks Challenge takes place over the mountains around Abergavenny and the Big Black Mountains Challenge in May offers a choice of testing routes in the same area.
If you’re not already spoilt for choice, two of the long-distance routes on the National Cycle Network start in Chepstow.
For a different sort of excitement, cheer on your favourite horse at Chepstow Racecourse, home of the Coral Welsh Grand National, or stargaze in the UK’s first International Dark Sky Reserve in the Brecon Beacons National Park.
If you’re looking for something more restorative, try forest bathing at a well-being retreat in the Wye Valley, a relaxing treatment at one of our spas or learning a new skill on one of our courses.
