You are here: Inspire me > Film & TV in Monmouthshire > Young Sherlock filming locations
The new Guy Ritchie directed TV show Young Sherlock has just launched on Amazon Prime Video, and eagle eyed viewers may have spotted some famous sights from Monmouthshire! We'll take a look below at some of the Young Sherlock filming locations in Monmouthshire
Beaufort Arms Court - Monmouth
The most prominent Young Sherlock filming in Monmouth occurs in Beaufort Arms Court, behind the Shire Hall Museum. This cosy cobbled courtyard is a beautiful corner of Monmouth, full of tea and coffee shops, and offers peace and quiet set behind Shire Hall. It also retains many of its original Georgian and Victorian features, making it a popular location for period dramas.
For Young Sherlock the courtyard was transformed into a bustling Oxford street in episode 2 (the Curse of the Burnt Photograph - 30:40). A big thanks to Chelsea from the Oxford Coffee Co. in Monmouth for providing these great set photos.
Oxford Coffee Company

(Thanks to the Oxford Coffee Co. for this picture)
The Oxford Coffee Co. was turned into a thriving fruit & veg shop. Good to see Amazon Prime Video putting the Oxford back into the Oxford Coffee Company!
In the picture above you're looking at the street from Agincourt Square, the opposite direction from which you follow the action in episode 2. In the episode, the Oxford Coffee Co. are on the left of the camera shot.
Oxford Coffee Co. have been serving great coffee, cakes and sandwiches in Monmouth since 2018.

Clare & Bob's Tea Room have a starring role, being transformed into the Lord & Kingsley photography shop that Sherlock enters. If you visit you'll even see they retained much of the furniture when transforming the teashop interior into the photography store.
Clare & Bob sell homemade scones, a great selection of teas and a wide food menu. They're also dog friendly.
Monmouth's Shire Hall Museum
Monmouth's Shire Hall appears at the very start of the first episode, about three minutes in, during the court scene (and from almost this exact angle).
The Shire Hall is closed at the moment for an exciting refurbishment, but should reopen in early 2027 as a brand new Shire Hall Museum.
Llanvihangel Court

Llanvihangel Court near Abergavenny is the location of Sherlock Holmes' family home "Appleton Manor", first shown briefly in flashbacks in the early episodes, but extensively in episode 4 (10 minutes in) and then in many of the later episodes.
It's a beautiful Tudor manor house on the edge of the Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons) National Park. It's popular for weddings, their annual Christmas fair and usually offer house open days during the summer.
The Rolls of Monmouth

The grand psychiatric hospital Cordelia Holmes resides (first seen 6 minutes into Episode 1) is actually The Hendre, the only full-scale Victorian country house in Monmouthshire. This grand building is currently the home of the Rolls of Monmouth Golf Club, but originally was the family home of the wealth Rolls family (including Charles Rolls, co-founder of Rolls Royce).
It's a stunning setting for a game of golf (with the manor house serving as the club house), and you can book group tours of the manor house in 2026 (with individual tours planned for 2027).
