Dixton Embankment is a grassland gem on the banks of the River Wye at Monmouth.

Created as an embankment for the nearby A40, this nature reserve now teems with mamals, birds, basking retiles and an impressive number of orchids.

Dixton Embankment is managed by Gwent Wildlife Trust on behalf of the Highways Agency.

There is limited parking off the A40, but this is not advised due to how busy the road is.

Dixton Embankment can be easily reached just off the Wye Valley Walk, or by continuing the Dixton Church Health Walk.
