Details

Llwyn Celyn is a medieval hall house in the Black Mountains. It was restored by The Landmark Trust and is now available for holiday lettings.

The Landmark Trust is opening Llwyn Celyn to the public for four days from Friday 13 September to Monday 16 September. The open days are free, and don't need to be booked. History sheets will be provided for you to learn more about the property and its renovation.

We have many fabulous events planned for the open days, with a landscape and food theme. So if you haven’t visited us yet, then come along and enjoy the award winning buildings, the wonderful Llanthony Valley and the events on offer. Please note that some events require prior booking by emailing in to llwyncelyn@landmarktrust.org.uk, so don’t leave it too late to reserve your place:

EVENTS ON DURING THE OPEN DAYS

Landscape and Story inspired by Raymond Williams' novel People of the Black Mountains (13th - 16th, free event).

From the ‘People’s Farm’ to the National Park (and beyond): Land and Landscape in the British Political Imagination, a public lecture by Dr. Martin Wright, Senior Lecturer in History, Cardiff University. 7pm, Friday 13th September

Bug Farm Foods – Food tasting event. 4pm, Saturday 14th September

Mark Griffin from Griffin Historical will be demonstrating the craft of medieval cooking in an open air kitchen, created especially for the weekend.
This event will take place throughout the day on the 14th & 15th September and is free.

Address - Cwmyoy, Abergavenny, Monmouthshire, NP7 7NE. Directions - from M4 take A40 to Abergavenny. Before you reach Abergavenny, take A465 signposted to Hereford, after approximately 5 miles turn left onto a narrow road, which is signposted Llanvihangel Crucorney, Llanthony and has a brown tourist sign towards Llanthony Priory. Follow this road past Pen-y-dre Farm, St Michael’s Church and a garage. At the Skirid Inn, turn left (following a second brown sign to Llanthony Priory). You quickly reach a T junction, but keep following your road around to the left. You’ll pass under a railway bridge and then Lower Stanton Farm on your left. As you carry on up the road you’ll pass a red postbox and a village noticeboard on your right hand side and then a crescent of white houses. Just beyond the crescent of houses opposite the last property on the right, take a left turn up a single track lane which will take you to Llwyn Celyn.

From Hereford travel southward along the A465, after approximately 18 miles take a right hand turning into a narrow road, signposted, Llanvihangel Crucorney and Llanthony and a brown signpost for Llanthony Priory. Follow the road round and then just before The Skirid Inn turn right (following a second brown sign to Llanthony Priory). You quickly reach a T junction, but keep following your road around to the left. You’ll pass under a railway bridge and then Lower Stanton Farm on your left. Parking will be signposted from here.

There are awkward and steep stairs inside the property. It may be possible for you to drive your car up to the entrance to drop off less abled visitors.
