Tintern based upholsterer Emily Boyd sews scrubs as part of Wye Valley Scrub Makers

Alongside her Tintern upholstery business, Emily Boyd has spent time sewing as part of a local group making scrubs and scrub bags for healthworkers, during the pandemic.

The group - the Wye Valley Scrub Makers - is based in the Wye Valley, in Llandogo, Tintern and Catbrook. The sewers were originally supplying scrubs to the Aneurin Bevan University Health Board Trust but as they are now well stocked, the group is starting to supply local doctors surgeries, nursing homes and Hereford Hospital.

Some of the fabric has been purchased but most is largely repurposed bedding generously donated by locals. Each of these little groups started independently but they have now joined up under the umbrella of a larger group known as the Aneurin Bevan scrubbers, some of whom were featured on BBC Countryfile on Sunday 10th May 2020.

To date, the Aneurin Bevan scrubbers have made 896 scrubs, 4,322 wash bags, 738 hats, 8,409 ear defenders and 2,193 headbands. What an amazing achievement!
