Stage 5 of The Lloyd's Tour of Britain Men's race will be heading through Monmouthshire on the 6th September, criss crossing the county before it reaches the Tumble hill climb. There'll be plenty of great places to watch the action, but we've picked a few of the best recommendations.
Make sure to arrive in plenty of time to account for the rolling road closures.
The Tumble
The Tumble is a notorious cycle climb near Abergavenny which heads up The Blorenge mountain from Govilon. At 5km in length with a consistent 10% incline for the first half and a total height gain of 399m, it presents a real challenge for amateur and professional cyclists.
The cyclists will be heading up the Tumble twice during Stage 5, once at around 1.50pm and then finishing there close to 3pm. We recommend parking in Blaenavon and then walking up as the road will be closed (around a 20 minute walk from the Rifleman's pub).
Usk

The town of flowers always goes all out for cycling events and this will be no different, especially as the cyclists will come through Usk twice (approx 11.50am and 14.20pm). Parking is free in Usk, so come down, watch them come through and then relax with lunch at one of the many pubs and restaurants in the town.
You can then see them come through again as they curve around the corner of the Three Salmons.
Chepstow
The Tour doesn't enter Chepstow itself but does go past the old entrance to Chepstow Racecourse at Piercefield (A466 / B4293 junction) around 12.25. There'll be good views as they make their way around the corner and up the Itton Road, and it's just a short walk from the entrance to one of out favourite walks, Picturesque Piercefield.
So watch the cyclists, then take in the stunning views of the Wye Valley in this 200 year old tourist trail.
Monmouth
Monnow Bridge is one of Monmouthshire's most iconic locations, and the cyclists will be heading straight past around 12.55pm. There's free parking nearby at the Rockfield Road Car Park, and then plenty of things to do in Monmouth itself just over Monnow Bridge before and after.
Abergavenny
There are a few great spots to watch the cyclists as they come past at approx. 1.35pm. They'll be coming around the corner of Bailey Park first, so there will be a lot of spots to see them there (and it's close to the town centre).
You can also park for free at the Byefield Lane Car Park, then make your way across the beautiful Castle Meadows and watch them come down towards the Abergavenny Bridge to Llanfoist, which will be a particularly scenic spot.
Wine and watch at White Castle Vineyard
There's not much better places for a viewing party than a vineyard. White Castle Vineyard still has spaces for their 11.30am vineyard tour and wine tasting. The tour lasts 90 minutes, which is perfect timing to then watch the cyclists go past the vineyard at approx. 1.20pm.
