About
Also known as the 'Peaky Stone', The Lonely Shepherd is a standing stone in the north-west of Monmouthshire, overlooking Clydach Gorge and the Vale of Usk to the west of Abergavenny.
Local legend claims it was once a man who was so cruel to his wife she drowned herself in the River Usk. For his sins he was turned into stone, but at midnight on mid-summer's eve he'll come back to life and walk down to the river calling his wife's name.
The stone offers great views over the Vale of Usk.
