About
The Punchbowl is a beautiful nature spot on the eastern flank of the Blorenge mountain, overlooking Monmouthshire. It was shaped by glacial erosion which helped to give the Blorenge the distinct shape you can see from Abergavenny.
This glacial valley basin has beautiful views, and a man-made lake in the centre. This Woodland Trust site is surrounded by old beech pollards, ash, sessile oak and rowan trees, and the area is a favourite for green woodpeckers, cuckoos, grey herons and buzzards. In the past this natural ampitheatre was also a favourite spot for bare-knuckle boxing!
The main entrance is at the south-western corner of the site (near the Foxhunter Car Park), where there is a gate and a public information board. You can also enter from the east, usually travelling up from the Llanfoist Old Railway Crossing car park.
