About
Llanfoist Wharf is a picturesque corner of the Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal, deep in the foothills of the Blorenge Mountain above Abergavenny.
Today it is a peaceful part of the canal, but in the 19th century it would have been a hive of industry and activity, as iron was delivered by tramroad ("Hill's Tramroad) from the mines and forges on top of (and over) the Blorenge. It would then be loaded onto canal barges to be taken down to Newport.
You can stay at accommodation overlooking Llanfoist Wharf, or enjoy numerous walks heading either west towards Govilon or east towards Llanellen.
Parking
Parking is nearby at Llanfoist Old Railway Crossing, about 8 minutes walk away up the steep church lane.
