About
Head to Laurie Jones Community Orchard for our annual Wassail. We'll be singing and drinking the health of the apple trees to ensure a good harvest of fruit in the Autumn.
The orchard Wassail is an inclusive, community celebration and will involve food and music, and apple juice and cider made from orchard apples collected and pressed at the Abergavenny Transition Town apple pressing day in October last year.
There will be a procession around the orchard, involving music and as much noise as possible to scare away the ‘spirits’. There will be a traditional ceremony in which pieces of toast soaked in cider are placed in one of the trees and cider poured onto its roots.
Everyone is welcome to attend and bring their own cups to enjoy the cider and apple juice. People are also encouraged to bring things to bang to make lots of noise, and to dress up in colourful clothes. If you’re a musician, few free to bring your instruments and take part in some impromptu music making.
We hope to see you there!
