About

The Royal George is an award-winning hotel in the picturesque village of Tintern, in the heart of the Wye Valley. Named ‘Best Place to Stay in Wales’ by The Times in 2026, it offers a characterful countryside escape where Welsh heritage meets contemporary comfort.

Welcoming guests since 1829, The Royal George reopened in 2025 following an extensive two-year renovation. Today, the hotel has 19 thoughtfully appointed rooms across two distinctive collections, each designed to offer comfort, character and a sense of connection to its surroundings.

The Welsh Heritage Rooms celebrate the history and character of the area, while the Garden Rooms offer contemporary comfort overlooking the hotel’s lush grounds, with many featuring private patios or balconies. Each room has been individually designed to create a restful retreat, combining the character of The Royal George with the comfort of a contemporary countryside stay.

Food and drink are an equally important part of a stay, with four distinctive venues to discover: refined seasonal dining at the Upper Deck Restaurant, hearty pub favourites at the Lower Deck Pub, freshly baked pizza in the Garden, and all-day refreshments at The Café.

Whether visiting for a romantic escape, a walking weekend or a few peaceful days in the Welsh countryside, The Royal George offers a welcoming base from which to experience Tintern and the wider Wye Valley.
