Join us for a hands-on spoon carving workshop set in the serene beauty of Golden Hill Wood, nestled in the heart of South Wales. This one-day green woodworking course offers a rare opportunity to slow down, learn traditional skills, and create something meaningful in a peaceful woodland setting.

Our open-sided workshop is built from natural materials and located right in the woods—a perfect environment to explore the meditative art of carving wood by hand.

Learn the Traditional Craft of Spoon Carving
This workshop is a beginner-friendly introduction to green woodworking, focusing on the heritage skill of wooden spoon carving. Using freshly cut ("green") wood and simple hand tools, you'll learn how to transform a raw log into a beautiful and functional wooden spoon.

More than just a craft course, this is a day of mindful making, connection to nature, and slowing down from busy life.

How to select and prepare wood for spoon carving

An introduction to green woodworking techniques

How to cleave a spoon blank from a log using hand tools

Axe safety and shaping techniques

How to carve a spoon bowl using a crooked knife (spoon knife)

Safe carving practices and effective hand positions

Finishing methods: sanding, natural oiling, and wood care tips

Your Instructor: Celi
Celi has been working with green wood since 2010. What started as self-guided exploration became a deep dive into woodland management, sustainable building, and traditional crafts. Since 2017, Celi has worked professionally in forestry, taught courses across the UK, and co-founded Golden Hill Wood—a community-centered project rooted in sharing rural skills.

About Golden Hill Wood
Golden Hill Wood is an inclusive, woman-led woodland project in South Wales. The site hosts regular workshops, volunteer days, and community events focused on sustainability, traditional crafts, and access to nature. We prioritise diversity, inclusion, and welcoming teaching environments for all genders and backgrounds.
