About
Join us at the beautiful Golden Hill Wood in our open side workshop nestled in the woods in Monmouthshire countryside and learn a traditional rural woodcraft.
Our green woodworking workshops range from 2 hours to 2 days and are all suitable for absolute beginners & the 2 days courses include free camping.
The workshops include the following outcomes:
• Sourcing and selecting green wood
• Basic green woodworking or 'bodging' theory & practice
• Cleaving
• Axe carving and shaping
• Using a shave horse and drawknife
• Using other traditional hand woodwork tools
• Oiling & finishing advice
• Going home with a finished product (or 2!)
These workshops use the skills used before we had power tools when people would take their limited tools into the wood and make all sorts of useful items.
Tea, coffee and biscuits will be provided. There is a compost loo on site but no shower.
Golden Hill Wood is a woman owned project and we endeavour to use female and minority gender teachers wherever possible. We also engage the public through volunteer days and projects to aid the management of the land and to share rural skills.
We are 40 minutes from Bristol and Cardiff and 20 minutes from Newport.
As this a sheltered but outdoor course please bring suitable clothing. Please also wear sturdy toe covered shoes, and weather appropriate clothing. Participants must be 16 or over. Please note this course will require a good level of manual dexterity on your part.
