We are delighted to start welcoming visitors back to Monmouthshire when the local travel restriction is lifted on 6th July and self-contained visitor accommodation is allowed to reopen on 11th July. The country park is currently open to all and our car park is operating from 10am-4pm every day. The castle building itself and the toilets in the country park are closed until further notice but you can still view our magnificent castle by taking a walk around the outside walls.

Visit Caldicot Castle in its beautiful setting of tranquil gardens and a wooded country park. Founded by the Normans, developed in royal hands as a stronghold in the Middle Ages and restored as a Victorian family home, the castle has a romantic and colourful history.

Find out about its past, explore the medieval towers and take in the breath-taking views of the parklands and surrounding area from the battlements. You will be able to travel through time and discover the home of Welsh castle life, from medieval times to the twentieth century.The castle was developed as a fortress by Royal hands in the Middle Ages and restored as a Victorian family home. The River Nedern winds its way through the park, and the wildlife pond is home to a variety of wildfowl.

You can see the 12 pounder muzzle-loading HMS Foudroyant’s cannon in our courtyard. Come and unravel the mysteries of the dark chilling castle dungeon. Caldicot Castle is reputed to be haunted by a number of ghosts. Who will you see before you leave?

The Castle's tower is one of the best places to view the Severn estuary. The castle was built on a spur of sandstone to control the River Nedern flowing nearby. The river was once a tidal estuary navigable for several miles upstream.

Opening details

During our open season, the castle's hours are 11am to 4pm from Tuesday to Sunday and entry is free. The castle is closed on Mondays (except bank holidays).

Between the end of October and April vehicular access and the main car park is closed between 5.30pm and 8.00am (although the Church Road car park remains open).
