Get on your Bike

This is a brilliant area for cycling - quiet roads on the flat or with steep inclines, a velodrome that is open for everybody (from Olympians to beginners), off road routes that allow you to explore the area, and off road mountain biking.

There are only 5 velodromes in the UK so you might think its difficult to have a go - its, not. For just £35 you can have a taster hour at the Geraint Thomas Velodrome. If you love it (and we are sure you will) then you can get involved with the Track League. There are tasters and Track Attack Bootcamps for youngsters.

If you want to get out on the roads then how about trying your hand at the Tumble - a 6km 10% climb up the side of the Blorenge Mountain, just outside Abergavenny. This is a regular part of the Abergavenny Festival of Cycling and has been part of the Tour of Britain.

If you want something a bit quieter, then hop on to one of the cycle paths - there is a great network around Newport; you could visit Tredegar House and Park, Caerleon, the Transporter Bridge and the Wetlands Centre by bike.
