The Wye Valley Greenway is a five mile (each way) shared use route between Tintern and Chepstow, mostly following the old Wye Valley railway line down the eastern side of the River Wye. 

The path allows walkers, cyclists and wheelchair users to enjoy a beautiful trip down the Wye Valley and through the 1km Tidenham Tunnel.

Due to bat populations within Tidenham Tunnel, this section is closed at night-time and from 1st October - 31st March.

Tidenham Tunnel is a significant bat habitat. Visitors are encouraged to use torches responsibly by only lighting the path ahead if needed, helping to minimise disturbance to bats by lights.

Tidenham Tunnel opening hours (may vary - please check Wye Valley Greenway website for updated info)

1 April - 30 April 8am - 6pm

1 May - 15 August 7am - 7pm

16 August- 30 September 8am - 6pm

1 October - 31 March Tunnel is closed

Parking for the Wye Valley Greenway 

North (Tintern) End - Parking is available at the Tintern Wireworks Car Park (NP16 6TQ) and at Tintern Abbey.

South (Chepstow) End - Parking is avaulable at Wyedean School in Sedbury or in Chepstow itself.

 

Off Road Cycling: Wye Valley Greenway - winter/evening alternative (for off-road bikes)

A winter/evening alternative for the Wye Valley Greenway between Sedbury & Tintern when Tidenham tunnel is closed. Please note this route involves over 150m of ascent in either direction and involves some quiet lanes and approximately 1km of moderately busy road on the B4228.  Explore Map >
