About
Wye Valley Sculpture Garden, Tintern
Set on the wooded slopes of the Wye Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the Wye Valley Sculpture Garden is one of the region’s most distinctive visitor attractions, combining contemporary art with a rich and evolving natural landscape.
Each year, the garden hosts one of Wales’s largest outdoor Summer Sculpture Exhibitions, curated by Gemma Kate Wood, the garden’s artist-in-residence, who is also the creator of this extraordinary garden. Sculptures by a carefully selected group of artists are thoughtfully curated across three acres of lawns, woodland, orchard and meadows. All sculptures are available to purchase directly from Wye Valley Sculpture Garden, making the garden a destination for art lovers and collectors.
The garden celebrates art, plants and wildlife in equal measure, offering visitors a space to explore, reflect and enjoy a slower pace of life. Formal lawns, herbaceous borders, a pond, woodland and a dedicated snowdrop wood create a varied and immersive setting that changes beautifully with the seasons.
The garden opens its doors to the public twice a year. May to mid-September, the Summer Exhibition runs Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday, 2pm–5pm. Homemade refreshments are served, and on many Sunday afternoons visitors can enjoy live acoustic guitar of Simon Cottle, enhancing the relaxed and welcoming atmosphere.
In winter, the garden opens for its much-loved Snowdrop Open Days, when over 80 varieties of snowdrops create drifts of white across the garden and woodland, with a selection available to purchase.
Gemma’s vision builds on a family legacy of organic land stewardship dating back to the 1950s. Developed over more than 40 years by botanists and ecologists, the garden continues to follow a sustainable, nature-led ethos and was recognised with a Sustainable Venue Award in 2018. Her unique combination of artistry, horticultural skill, and curatorial expertise makes the Wye Valley Sculpture Garden a truly exceptional experience.
