Guided walks with the MonLife Countryside Access Team

The Monmouthshire Countryside Access Team arrange a series of guided walks in the beautiful Monmouthshire Countryside. The walks, led by trained volunteers, will take you on journeys of discovery in the Monmouthshire Countryside. They vary in length from 3 to 10 miles, but are usually around 6 or 7 miles. They will take you through fields and woodlands and along lanes and rivers, encountering points of interest on the way. Some level of fitness will be needed for the walks, but you will not be on a route march and leaders will adjust the pace to suit the group. This is a great opportunity to keep fit, improve your wellbeing, make new friends and find out more about our fantastic county in the safe hands of our knowledgeable leaders.

River, Church and Abandoned Settlement

Sunday 5th October 2025

10:00am (Approx 5 hours)

On this 8 mile (12.75 km) walk we will head along the banks of the River Usk, passing the ancient church of St Peter’s, Llanwenarth Citra. We will continue up onto the lower slopes of the Sugar Loaf Mountain to reach the abandoned settlement known as Y Graig. After lunch at Y Graig, we will make our way back to Abergavenny.

It should take about 5 hours to complete.

Skenfrith to Box Farm

Saturday 18^th October 2025

10:30am (Approx 4 hours)

This 6.25 mile (10km) walk follows part of the Three Castles Walk through lanes and open fields towards Grosmont. Field paths then rise to Brook House Farm, from where the walk descends the Black Brook Valley back to Skenfrith.

It should take about 4 hours to complete.
