Abergavenny

Abergavenny town is the perfect base for exploring the Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons) National Park and the Blaenavon World Heritage Site. Its status as a foodie Mecca is well established with its annual autumn Abergavenny Food Festival a staple on the culinary calendar. And its regular food and craft markets attract the best artisan producers from across the region. Its main attractions include Abergavenny Castle & Museum, St Mary's Priory church, market hall and castle meadows.

Called Gobannium by the Romans and Y Fenni by Welsh speakers (after one of the brooks running through the town) Abergavenny (like Rome) is surrounded by seven mountains.

Loads to look out for including some fabulous independent shops in the town centre like Alison Tod Milliner, Cooks' Galley, Madame Fromage, Gateway Cycles, Love Lily, That's Lovely That, The Art Shop, The Wool Croft, Chesters Wine Merchants, The Angel Bakery and two superb butchers, Powells and Rawlings.
