The Folk on the Lawn music festival takes place again on the banks of the River Wye at Tintern: this summer over the long weekend of Thursday 17th to Sunday 19th July.

The event has expanded, bit by bit, in the decade and more it has been running. In 2020 there will be five stages, with four of them hosting music, words and comedy from Friday teatime to Sunday teatime , which is when the bulk of things take place.

The festival may also be unique for an event of its size in having no entry fee. However, those attending are more than encouraged to donate a sum of their choice in return for a wristband. Funds are raised, also, by a number of raffles, with prizes including musical instruments. What is raised is distributed back to those performing. The team setting up and running the event are all volunteers.

As in previous years, the festival showcases a wide arc of the arts. The 'folk' of its title indicates a love of the homespun and the innovative rather than delineating a particular musical form: 2020 will see bands and performers ranging from highly electrified 'psych folk' bands, via more traditional music, to puppeteers and rare brands of comedy.

Updated details of all those performing will be found on the festival website. The website also provides information on local camping and accommodation. It's also worth checking out social media for updates regarding line-up, programme and accommodation.

The main event site itself is a landmark: the beautiful grounds of Abbey Mill Wye Valley Centre, just 100m from the famous abbey ruins.
