Usk

About

A guided tour of Usk, the birthplace of Alfred Russel Wallace 1823-1913, starting at The Sessions House, Usk, NP15 1AD.

Wallace was born in Kensington Cottage, Llanbadoc, Usk. He had an outdoor childhood and remembers catching lampreys on the river with his brother John and playing in the castle grounds. The guided walk will give an insight into his earliest years roaming the banks of the River Usk and the ruins of Usk Castle, building the deep curiosity about the natural world that would shape the rest of his life.

The guided tour, by local historians David and Stella Collard, will take in the house where Alfred Russel Wallace was born, the church where his sisters are buried, the areas where he played as a child (including Usk Castle), his bust in Twyn Square and the Alfred Russel Wallace Arboretum.

Meet at 11am to start the guided walk at 11.15am.
