About

On 4th October, Caldicot Castle will be home to a creative feast! Bringing together some of the area's most passionate and talented artists, the Caldicot community will be showcasing work, demonstrating their skills and performing to the crowd.

The day will include a whole host of activities for people to enjoy, encouraging people to get stuck in to come creative fun whilst celebrating with fellow local folk.

For those who want to have a go, there will be a plein-air drawing and painting, a live community mural to contribute to, as well as artists demonstrations and other 'have a go' stations.

Kids will have the opportunity to create large scale artworks from foraged finds, have a go at graffiti lettering and take part in the 'local legends' art competition. To take part, young people aged 5 – 11 years are asked to think of a local person, place or story that inspires them, and draw, paint, print, cut or stick their ideas to an A4 piece of card. With names and ages clearly written on the back, all entries must to be taken to the castle no later than 2pm on the day, with the winner announced at 3pm, with the chance to win an inspiring creative bundle!

As well as workshops and activities, there will also be a variety of performances from local musicians and groups and artist displays, all held within the beautiful grounds of the castle, who's tea rooms will be serving up hot drinks and cakes all day.

"This is a chance to feel into the harvest season and create our own community bounty!" says event coordinator, Katherine McDermid-Smith. "Having spent time talking to local creatives, it's clear that we need to support the creative community in Caldicot and have more events that bring people together, platform local artists and help to inspire people in their creative journeys, and this will hopefully be the first of many!".

Full details and schedules can be found on the VisitMonmouthshire event page as well as on Caldicot Castle Facebook and Instagram pages.

If you would like to take part as an artist or performer, or have idea on how to support the local creative community, please email: katherinemcdermidsmith@monmouthshire.gov.uk.

This event is funded in part by the UK government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund and is organised through MonLife, Monmouthshire County Council.
