About
Llanddewi Rhydderch Baptist Chapel was built in 1827, on land donated by the Williams family. Services have been held in the Chapel ever since. There is a history section on the Chapel website providing further information.
The building is listed and still has original wooden pews and light fittings inside. Outside there are wonderful, timeless views of the surrounding countryside and mountains.
Recently, Trustees of the Chapel put together a local history display, gathering many contributions from current and past generations of the village. Open days were held and visitors provided excellent feedback. The information remains in the Chapel, and visitors can contact Brenda on 07977596319 to arrange to view and discuss. Topics include:
- Local families
- School records
- Where is the W.I. map showing all the houses with their names?
- When did the Village Hall open?
- Why did the village have two schools?
- Who fought alongside Monty at El Alamein?
- What did Thomas Gwatkin Jones and Edward Jones steal to be given 6 months’ hard labour?
- Which film premiered in Abergavenny with Prince Charles in attendance?
- What use was made of the Yew tree in the Churchyard during World War II?
