About

The historic mill in Mathern, near Chepstow will be open to visitors from 2pm to 5pm on Saturday 18th June 2022. It is a watermill dating back to at least the late 17th century. Once part of the St. Pierre estate the mill continued to serve the community of Mathern and surrounding area until the 1960s. Much of the Victorian machinery remains in situ and visitors can get a good idea of what the mill was like and how it worked. From our research we have a lot of information about past occupants of the mill who were not only millers, but also farmers and publicans. There are many stories to tell about the building and the people who lived and worked there for over three centuries. There is plenty to see in the mill. We have audio and visual displays and lots of information explaining the milling process, the role of the miller and the social history of the time. We also have activities especially for children. Entry is FREE. Find us: On entering Mathern village, turn right at the war memorial and follow the lane for 400yds. Postcode NP16 6LG
