Provided neither you or anyone in your household is displaying symptoms of Covid-19, current advice is that it is safe for you to go outside for exercise, so long as you stay local to your home, go alone or with members of your household and keep 2 metres from others at all times. Be vigilant with hand washing and hygiene and be aware that gates, stiles and other outdoor structures are touched regularly.

The Welsh Government has produced guidance which in summary says:

•Everybody should stay at home as much as possible but going out to exercise is, however, a valid reason to leave home
•Exercise should be local and generally be limited to walking, running and cycling, and travelling by vehicle to exercise should be avoided unless there is a good reason for doing so
•Exercise should be done, alone, or with other members of the household (or with carers as appropriate). It is not intended to be a social activity during the emergency period nor should it be an excuse for leaving the home for other purposes.
•People should seek to avoid exercising on paths or in parks or other places they are aware can be busy.

The guidance provides greater clarity over type and duration of acceptable forms of exercise, and gives further advice on the use of travelling by vehicle for exercising.

Monmouthshire’s countryside sites and public rights of way, with the exception of closures, remain open for public use.

Please note the legal exception that allows people to go out to exercise is subject to the need not to congregate in public places and advice is to practice social distancing (maintaining a distance of at least 2 metres from other persons). Only use local walking routes from your home.

Many footpaths and bridleways cross private land and in some cases working farms are close to private homes. Please keep to the paths, follow the countryside code, keep your distance from landowners and continue to follow the restrictions and measures in place to protect you and others. Also remember that its lambing season and dogs must always be kept under control.

Please also be aware that following Storm Dennis & Storm Ciara many of our walks are not in good condition and some have missing bridges, so take care.
