Details
Discover the history of Sudbrook and the Severn Tunnel, Wales' crucial rail link with England. The centre tells the story of the village built in the 1870s to house the 3000 workers constructing the Severn Railway Tunnel. Opened in 1886, the tunnel is 4 miles 624 years long and was the longest mainline railway tunnel in the UK for more than 100 years. Once the tunnel was complete the brickyard was converted to ship building. The Frensham at 739 tons was the largest and the last ship built here in 1922.
