Sat 3 Feb HPS Talk: Daisy Days

During cold winter days but with spring just around the corner, there’s time to look ahead to planting in the coming months for colour later in the year.

Our next talk is on Saturday 3rd February at 2.30pm. Helen Picton of Old Court Nurseries and The Picton Garden in Malvern will be telling us about - and answering questions on - "Daisy Days: the rise, fall and renaissance of Michaelmas daisies". Out of fashion for a while perhaps, these colourful plants are again a key feature of the autumn border, with their peak season of flowering in September and October (with Michaelmas day being on 29th Sept).

The Monmouthshire group of the Hardy Plant Society (HPS) meets in Usk as it is centrally located. The group is open to those, of all ages and levels of experience, who would like to share their enjoyment of plants and gardening with other like-minded people. The group organises programmes of talks and garden visits. It attracts members not only from Usk but from across Monmouthshire and its neighbouring counties.
Usk Centenary Hall (NP15 1AD) is at the rear of the Memorial Hall car park, opposite the prison, with free parking. Members £3, visitors £5, incl. refreshments and also the opportunity to buy members’ home grown plants at a reasonable price.
For more information, see the HPS website at www.hardy-plant.org.uk/monmouth or send an email to monmouthshirehps@gmail.com.

(Looking further ahead, at the following meeting on Saturday March 10th, Paul Green of Green's Leaves Nurseries, Newent will be speaking about 'Grasses and Foliage Interest' which again promises to be very relevant and interesting.)
