Details

An extremely comfortable architectural design bungalow perched on the ridge in private land with the most glorious panoramic views over rolling meadowlands of The Wye Valley. This is a great location reached 5 miles into Wales over the Severn Bridge yet surrounded by the largest area of ancient deciduous woodland in Wales.

Nestling between the Usk and Wye Valleys, it is an area of outstanding natural beauty with magnificent views towards The Black Mountains and The Brecon Beacons in the distance. Twenty foot fold back windows from which to watch birds of prey hover on the wind, changing patterns of light touch the rolling valleys, and glorious sunsets unfold. Sit in the lounge with the windows open, or rest in the safe enclosed garden with Hot Tub and outlook onto the ridge view .Once there you would not want to leave except perhaps to pop down to one of the surrounding border towns for market day or fine food and provisions.

There are plenty of walks straight from the door. The cottage backs on to Chepstow Park Woods, from which you can follow ancient pathways down to the majestic Cistercian Tintern Abbey- painted by Turner and praised in Wordsworth's poetry. Easy footpaths and nearby cycle trails abound. The ancient Forest of Dean, Monmouth and Symonds Yat are all a close drive away - perfect for horse-riding trails, canoeing or white water rafting on the River Wye.

Devauden is the closest village with a local shop and a pub, but there are many nearby pubs and restaurants with established reputations in locally sourced cuisine. The village was once a "woodland base for illicit woodcutters, quarrymen and labourers"! Now a very pretty village in lovely countryside where history stands undisturbed with many of the local and families tracing back their generations locally in farming and woodland crafting.

There is an Adventure Playground and a sculpture trail at Beechenhurst. Another place of interest is the old wireworks in the Angiddy Valley - now a series of pretty ponds stocked for fishing. Visit the Caves of Clearwell. Take a trip on the heritage Steam Train through the medieval forest. Chepstow Race Course is just a ten minute drive up the road - so a perfect place to stay to enjoy a day at The Races - masses of parking there. Raglan Castle again only a 15 minute drive is well worth a visit...from Raglan carry on to visit the UNESCO World Heritage Town of Blaenavon with superb views as you drive over Blorenge Mountain and potentially visit the underground working coal mine, Big Pit.

For walkers, the Sugarloaf, Skirrid and Blorenge plus all the peaks on the Black Mountains and Brecon Beacons are in close vicinity; equally , the waterfalls in the Neath Valley.
