Whether you are looking for a place to relax or a base from which to explore the many attractions of the Forest of Dean and South Wales, Becher's Cottage is ideal for you.

Down a country lane with tall hedges and old oak trees, Becher's Cottage is situated amid the rolling Welsh hills. There are 100 acres on the farm where sheep, cattle and horses graze. A gentle stroll around the farm or the more strenuous Three Castles Walk, the choice is yours, with a comfortable cosy cottage to return to.

From a private, paved patio the front door opens to a spacious hallway with feature staircase, then 2 steps down to an open plan living/dining area with Freeview TV, DVD, CD, HiFi, games, books, all provided. Free Wi-Fi is also available. Central heating is supplemented by an electric "wood burner" fire for colder evenings.

The kitchen is fully equipped for cooking and dining in style - with a fridge and separate freezer, plenty of pans, crockery, utensils, etc. with oven, grill and ceramic hob, microwave and toaster, and a dishwasher - all of which are in working order and tested before each arrival.

Upstairs, there are two bedrooms (one double, one twin) with en-suite bathrooms. The bathrooms are modern, one with a bathtub and one with a shower, and all bed linen and towels and basic toiletries are provided. Beds will, of course, be made up for your arrival with different weight duvets depending on season and plenty of pillows.

There is ample parking next to the cottage and you will find plenty of information to hand about all the delights of Monmouthshire. Your hosts are there to welcome you and provide advice, directions and recommendations. Your dog can come for no extra charge if you ask us first and, as well as a secure fenced garden area; can have a large safe field to run free. Monmouthshire has become a county of fine food, with good restaurants, weekly markets, and specialist food producers. You can enjoy fast food, gastro pubs or Michelin starred dining or purchase lovely fresh food to cook in the modern, fully equipped kitchen.

Walking, cycling, canoeing, horse riding, fishing and golf are all available nearby. Chepstow racecourse is less than an hour away. The beautiful lower Wye valley and Tintern Abbey are a few minutes away, across the river from Monmouth. Cardiff Bay and Dr Who, Celtic Manor 2010 Ryder Cup golf course and other lovely courses, Hereford Cathedral with its Mappa Mundi - all are easy to reach. The Royal Forest of Dean boasts caves, arts and crafts, sculptures and mazes, puzzles and butterflies, steam railways, tea rooms and old-world pubs to visit. At the end of the day, you can watch the sun set on Skirrid Fawr in the Black Mountains from the cottage patio or wander the farm and talk to the horses, watch the bats, and enjoy one of the last truly quiet places in the UK.

ACCESS STATEMENT for Becher's Cottage at The Farr Farm, Newcastle, Monmouth, NP25 5NF tel: 01600 750677 email: farrfarm@waitrose.com " Transport: The cottage is located a mile from the hamlet of Newcastle and is approached from all directions by minor, undulating and twisting roads and lanes, with high hedges and with few signposts and no lighting. There are no local shops and the nearest public house is about 2 miles away (not easy walking distance and restricted opening times). There is no regular bus service from either Monmouth or Abergavenny, which are the two nearest towns (6 miles and 11 miles away respectively). There are taxi companies in both towns. " Location: The cottage is situated on a farm, which is approached by a single-track lane with passing places (no street lighting) and then through a farm gate on to a single-track farm driveway. There is ample space for parking around the cottage although some of the space is sloping. One car can be parked on the same level as the front door of the cottage, which is then approached along a short, paved area bounded by a high stone wall to a traditional front door step and cill. " Outside: There is a paved patio area to the side of the cottage, with one stepped change of level. The patio is surrounded by sloping lawn, which is enclosed by post and rail fencing. This garden is not secure for dogs but a farm field is usually available for a dog to have a free run. There is a gap in the fencing to a grass walk around a field, which then leads down steps and slopes to the rest of the farm. The cottage overlooks the farmhouse down a steep slope (made up of a rockery and flowerbed) with an unfenced pathway along the side of the cottage. " Inside: The cottage is on two floors. The ground floor hallway is ceramic tiled and leads down two wooden steps to the living and kitchen area which is floorboarded with rugs. The kitchen is fitted and has some wall units. There are no toilet facilities downstairs. There is a carpeted stairway from the hall made up of two flights of stairs (7 steps and 4 steps) divided by a level landing, all with banister rails and handrails. The bedrooms and their en-suite bathrooms are all on one level. There is narrow access to each bedroom and narrow doorways to the bathrooms. One bathroom has a bath; the other a shower cubicle; neither has a handrail. None of these rooms is adapted for wheelchair users. " OS Grid Reference: SO 432 176 Nearest towns: Abergavenny - 11 miles, Monmouth - 6 miles. Note: Mobile telephone reception is patchy in the area.
