About
I collect materials for my baskets on daily walks in the Welsh countryside - a constant inspiration. Colour and texture are of prime importance; the woods are not dyed - the variety of colour comes from the natural barks of many different species.Basketmaking started as a hobby but blossomed into a passion as I became intrigued by the wealth of naturally colourful and textural materials growing in hedges, woods and gardens. Each basket gives a new lease of life to a myriad of annual prunings – Nature’s ‘rubbish’ – that would otherwise be discarded.
I also make felt bags and hangings from local fleece, combining it with carefully chosen pieces of driftwood, honeysuckle and ivy to create unique pieces of natural art. In 1994 Search Press published my book Handmade Baskets.
