Welsh Dragon

Welcome to Usk

Usk has many strings to its bow. It sits on one of the finest salmon fishing rivers in the country, the River Usk. Its 11th century castle is the backdrop for an enchanting, romantic garden.

A regular winner of Wales in Bloom, it hosts a colourful Open Gardens weekend in June and a county show in September, has a castle, a rural life museum, and a Town Trail which includes 28 sites of historic interest, each with a Blue Plaque, all in this small picturesque town.

In 2017 Usk was named joint winner of the large village category in the Royal Horticultural Society’s Britain in Bloom awards, alongside Market Bosworth in the East Midlands. The village was awarded a gold medal for the high standard of its entry, with judges singling out features such as the castle and its grounds, a resident’s front garden known as The White Garden and the mix of wildflowers used to attract bees for particular praise.
