6 Piercefield
Route Overview
This walk takes you across Piercefield Estate, retracing paths laid out by Valentine Morris in the eighteenth century. The old estate incorporates Chepstow Race Course and the route takes you around the course to the village of St. Arvans. You return to the start by following a series of footpaths through farmland and finally a section of Cockshoot Wood before walking along the B4235 back to Chepstow Leisure Centre. Points of interest include Morris’s picturesque walks which had viewpoints and features along the route and were extremely popular with tourists then as they are now. Piercefield House illustrates the decay of one of Wales’s finest houses. It’s well worth a small detour to the Giant’s Cave.
