About

Please see downloadable PDF for route.

A mostly level walk, but rough under foot and few ‘escape routes’. Only attempt this walk in good weather. The views are excellent on a clear day. Part of the route follows the bed of a tramway, constructed to take limestone from the quarries on Blorenge to the ironworks at Blaenavon and to transport iron from Blaenavon to the canal wharf at Llanfoist. The quarries here supplied limestone for industrial use at Blaenavon and for the limekilns at Llanfoist, where it was turned into lime fertiliser. The top of Blorenge is protected for its landscape and nature conservation qualities. The heather moorland supports Red Grouse.
